History Biographical
Pat Henderson is the daughter of William Smith and Jean Henderson, and the granddaughter of William and Margret Henderson. William Henderson was a Scottish Canadian who served as mayor in Lethbridge from 1907-1909. He and Margret, had six kids together: Etta, Harold, William, Adelina, Edna, and Fred. Most of the content in this collection pertains to Pat’s father William Smith Henderson, including many photos and documents about his time in the military. William and his brothers, Harold and Fred, fought in WWI, Harold died during the Battle of Vimy Ridge. Prior to the war, the brothers ran a garage together, which they later leased to the military to be used as an armory during and after WWI. After the war, William and Fred continued to reside in Lethbridge for most of their lives, staying very active in the community. William remained involved in the automotive industry, running an Exide Service Station at some point between the world wars. He also played in the Lethbridge Great War Veterans Hockey Club with Fred, became president of the Lethbridge ANAF Veterans, and worked on the Alberta Liquor Control Board, before resigning to enlist for WWII. During WWII he served in the 1st C.M. machine gun brigade, but was discharged for medical reasons on June 6th, 1941. After WWII, he continued his involvement with the Lethbridge ANAF Veterans.
