- History Biographical
- In 1975, the Canada Winter Games were hosted in Lethbridge, Alberta. Over 4,000 volunteers from across southern Alberta helped to put on the Games in Lethbridge. The Sportsplex, later called the ENMAX Centre, in Lethbridge was built for the Games and later went on to become the home of the WHL’s Lethbridge Hurricanes hockey club. The 1975 Canada Winter Games were the fifth Canada Games, and it occurred over thirteen days, from February 11 to 23, 1975. The Games hosted 17 winter events including, speed skating and curling. The official mascot of the Games was Pharley the Pheasant. The Games officially began with the Opening Ceremonies that took place on February 11 at 6 pm at the Sportsplex. Team Quebec won the Games and took home the Canada Games flag. The donor, Sheri Howe (nee Doyle), was a member of the organizing committee of the Games.
