History Biographical
The Victoria Park Neighbourhood Association was formed in 1990, as a way to engage people in the Victoria Park neighbourhood with other residents and to “preserve, maintain, and enhance the present residential nature and cultural atmosphere of the area”. It covers the boundaries of “6th Avenue South from 13th Street South to Mayor Magrath Drive. South on Mayor Magrath Drive to the lane between 12th and 13th Avenues South to the lane between 13th and 12th “C” Streets South. North on the lane to the South side of 9th Avenue South. East on 9th Avenue South to 13th Street South. North on 13th Street South to 6th Avenue South”. According to their Bylaws and administrative notes, all residents of the Victoria Park Neighbourhood 18 years and older may be eligible for application to the Association. Their Board of Directors consists of seven elected people from the neighbourhood and they may serve a two-year term on the Board. Their President presides over the rest of the Board and all of their meetings. They have a Secretary and Treasurer on their committee. The Society holds annual meetings around the 31st of March each year, and general meetings may be called by any member of the Board or President, and notification of meetings are given through the Lethbridge Herald. The Objectives of the Victoria Park Neighbourhood Association included, “To maintain close liaison with the City of Lethbridge at all administrative levels. To participate with the City of Lethbridge in the creation of overall development plan for the neighbourhood. To discuss, influence and have direct input on all matters of zoning and development in the Victoria Park area.” The Association was active against commercial development in their neighbourhood and were vocal supporters of keeping their neighbourhood quiet, family-oriented and strictly residential. Paul Kenwood served as the President of the Association from the early 1990s, and it is believed he continued in the position through the mid-2000s. The Victoria Park Neighbourhood Association later merged and became the London Road Neighbourhood Association.
