History Biographical
John R. (Mickey) Brennen began his career with Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) in 1917 at the age of seventeen. He first started working at Coleman as an Assistant Agent for the Railway company. He then moved on to become a Relieving Agent at Burdett in 1920 by studying and winning a telegram code from a prize in a cocoa tin. Over the course of his 47-year career with CPR, he worked his way through the company, working as an Assistant Agent, Operator, Agent and Train Dispatcher. His job took him all over Alberta and Saskatchewan, dispatching mostly freight trains. He married his wife, Mary Josephine Morrissey, in Coalhurst in 1927. They had four children: two daughters and two sons. Mr. Brennen retired from CP Rail in 1964 after 47 years with the railroad. Living in Southern Alberta, Mr. and Mrs. Brennen spent their retirement working in their garden and with their family.
