History Biographical: The association was a primary promoter for Lethbridge and Southern Alberta, previously known as the Travel and Convention Association of Southern Alberta. The organization provided information to the travelling public and residents and operated one of the few year-round visitor centres in the region. The CCTA’s visitor centre was built in 1979 at the corner of Mayor Magrath Drive and Scenic Drive South, the confluence of Highways 4 & 5. In 1985, the facility added more parking space, a playground, picnic shelter, washrooms and outdoor interpretative panels. In 1995 the CCTA added office space and souvenir retail area. In 2019 the CCTA was dissolved following the loss of city funding and inability ot establish other sources of revenue. The successor, Tourism Lethbridge, was tasked with encouraging conventions, meeting and sporting events as well promoting area attractions.
