- Dr. Job Kujit, a University of Lethbridge botanist, examines the first flower of his Stapelia gigantea. The plant, which has been growing in his greenhouse for two years, grows naturally in the Southern African desert. Dr. Kujit received the plant from another botantist in Seattle. Beige in color with dark bristles standing erect on the petals, the greenery of the plant is cactus like and succulent. The flower was not one to give for its scent. It smells like rotten bananas.
