- Work moved ahead on renovations for the new College Mercury Sales Ltd. dealership on 3 Ave. and 18th St. S. Completion date for the $150,000 project was to be Oct. 31, 1971. Bird Construction Ltd. of Lethbridge was awarded the main contract. Gordon Paterson, College Mercury president said all sub-contracts were awarded to local firms. It was his belief that the work should go to Lethbridge companies, since his firm was doing business here in the city. The addition was to add 7,000 square feet to the building bringing the total to 166,000 square feet. This would allow College Mercury to consolidate its operations although the body shop on 19th St. and 2nd Ave. was to be retained. Paterson noted that the new premises would increase efficiency in view of the 25 per cent growth for the company.
