More than 1,300 participants pre-registered for the event, making it the largest convention ever held in Lethbridge to 1971. Among those seated on the stand for the opening at the Lethbridge Collegiate Institute were Alex Johnson, right, convention chairman and Dr. A. E. Palmer, former director of the Lethbridge Experimental Farm, honorary chairman.
