History Biographical
Kainai Industries in Cardston and Standoff was formed to build low-cost housing for the Canadian market. Three southern Alberta firms, Kainai Industries Ltd. of Standoff, HaiCo Manufacturing Ltd. of Lethbridge and Schwartz Agencies of Lethbridge signed a $20 million, three year agreement for portable housing/trailers. The company started operations July 10, 1971. Some 240 Indigenous people were to be employed in the operation.
