This VHS is among a variety of films used by the Galt Museum & Archives for public and for educational purposes. Some were produced by the National Film Board, local 2&7, CFCN and Global Television stations.
Scope and Content
Some speakers are hard to hear, hard to hear names. This is footage of an event held by the Lethbridge Historical Society. Focus is on where people were on V.E. Day whether it’s their memories or stories that have been passed down. Gordon (?) talks about World War II, the creation of the United Nations, and the victory against Nazi Germany. He talks about the importance of remembering the events that happened in the past and documenting the memories. George Brown- Served in the South Pacific. D (?) Smith- was a member of the RCAF. Flew mail from Canada to soldiers overseas. Nielle (?) O‘Neal- from Claresholm couldn’t make it but George Brown read his memory. Arbald/ Arnold (?)- Joined the army and told his experience during the war. Albert C. couldn’t make it but George Brown read his memories. Rib Forman (?) tells his story from the Dutch perspective as he lived on the border at the time. George Brown reads a winning story of World War II by Blair McMirlan (?) Irma Dogterom- at the time she was a school girl. She talks about the impact that the war made to her life. Tracy Anderson- went to university and became an officer. Tells his story of the war. George Brown reads the story that Al send in about his memory of V.E. Day when he worked at the POW Camp No. 133 Lethbridge. Clarence- enlisted in the army and talks about the memories of his time serving with the 110th battery. Moss Halm (?) spoke for her husband (Herman (?)). They met during the war. He was sent overseas and was in Holland on V.E. Day. Ross (?) was in the Canadian army in Holland and told his story of his experience during V.E. Day. Dun Hart (?) told his story of his time in the army. Dutch man telling his story of V.E. Day when he was a kid in Germany. Everyone sings O’ Canada. Closing remarks and George Brown gets presented with a book.
