History Biographical: This VHS is among a variety of films used by the Galt Museum & Archives for public and for educational purposes. Some were produced by the National Film Board, local 2&7, CFCN and Global Television stations.

Scope and Content: “Depression Years in S. Alta” Produced by K2 Communications Lethbridge, Alta. All rights reserved Sir Alexander Galt Museum. Depression started in the 1920s in Lethbridge. Interviews with farmer and teacher that lived through the depressions years. Films talks about the crop failure in Southern Alberta as well as dust bowls, crop diseases, and grasshopper plagues. Farmers were able to work together and help the crops a little bit. Schools were forced to close because they couldn’t collect taxes in order to keep the school open. During lunch and recess kids would make up games to play. More dances occurred to maintain social connections. After 10 years of depression there came the years of war.
