Scope and Content
Bailey Street School was built in 1894. The site as described to be facing Bailey Dtreet (16th Street North) between McKay and Gross Streets (5th and 5th Avenue A North). The school became empty when the extension for Westminister school was completed in 1909. The Board then rented out the school to various associations. In 1914 the Board decided that they were no longer going to rent out the school to any society or individual. On December 1917 the Galt Mines library purchased the school from the Board and moved it by horse-drawn drays to a new location. This new location was on Westminister Road, between McBeth and Luckhurst Streets (13th Street North, between 7th and 8th Avenues). The building has taken on a couple additons and changes to its walls but the frame of the original school is still standing strong. In 1934 the city took over the original site of the Bailey Street School. Photograph is a view of the front of the school with children around the school.
