History Biographical
The owner of the album, Horty Heinrich was Gefreiter Service Heer (first rank after completion of basic training, OR-2 on the NATO rank scale) during WWII in Wehrmacht.
Scope and Content
Photographs during his service in Wehrmacht Heer (Land Forces) show light armored vehicle with its crew. Later photographs show POW Camp 133-Lethbridge and transit camps -- Ozada camp 133 or the Kananaskis/Seebe Camp 130. Lethbridge Camp 133 was the largest Prisoner of War Camp in the Dominion of Canada encompassing 638 acres and housing 13, 500 prisoners. The photographs from Camp 133 show gymnastics and soccer sports teams, musical and theatrical performances/productions, prisoners in German uniforms, military funeral, Nazi salute, flag and symbols, and Reichsadlers (Imperial Eagles) as hall interior décor. Camp 133 closed in 1946, and all remaining POWs were repatriated to Germany.
