- Scope and Content
- Dayliner No. 9022 at the Lethbridge railway station. The Canadian Pacific Railway Dayliner, known as the “widow maker” for its speed and accidents, was a self-propelled, air-conditioned one- car passenger unit which began operation in 1955 between Calgary and Lethbridge both via Vulcan and Fort Macleod. Mail and Express service was transferred from rail to the rapidly improving highways, eliminating the length stops at intermediate stations which this traffic necessitated. On July 17, 1971, the last regular passenger train operated south of the CPR Main Line ceased operation. Service between Calgary and Edmonton was continued until September 1985.
