- History Biographical
- The Panthers were formed in the 1930s as a way to provide recreation through the depression years. Efforts were made to teach and play Canadian football with 3 teams established - the Macroons, representing the north side of the city, the Panthers representing the south side and the Huskies for those who had jobs and had Wednesday fternoon off. Desperate attempts were made to obtain equipment, rule books, coaches and uniforms. A referee was found in Henry Viney, a sportscaster from CJOC, who had a rule book. Good managers were also essential and Ed Bruchet left his soccer and hockey interests to manage the Panther team and to set up some league regulations and constitution. Fundraisers in the form of dances were held to raise money for uniforms. Some 75 young men joined the teams and fans numbering up to 500, attended the games held at Adams Park. Interest faded as jobs became available. The league had filled a need during their three years existance.
