- A three year agreement was signed in Calgary by three south Alberta firms to provide quality low cost housing for the Canadian market, according to Ed Fox, vice-president of Kainai Industries Lt. of Standoff. Participants included Kainai Industries, HaiCo Manufacturing Ltd.of Lethbridge and Schwartz Agencies of Lethbridge in which the latter would purchase all sectional homes built at the new Kainai plant for distribution on a Canada-wide market. The agreement was expected to generate 240 jobs for native people at the plant, 32 miles southwest of Lethbridge. Jean Chretien, minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, gets ready to add his signature to the agreement.
