- Two giant steel horizontal fire tube boilers being installed at the new University of Lethbridge campus. The boilers were nine feet by 12.5 feet and each was worth about $21,000. Each boiler weighed about 38,400 pounds empty and 66,000 pounds in operation. They awere hot water boilers, not steam boilers, and used 25,000 cubic feel of natural gas per hour. Heat output was 600 horsepower each, totaling 40 million BTU per hour, enough o heat about 350 average sized houses. The boilers were made by Saskatoon Boiler Co. Ltd. and were installed by Western Air Conditioning of Calgary.
