- History Biographical
- The Imperial Order of the Daughters of the Empire (IODE) was a women’s charitable organization based in Canada. It was formed in January, 1900 in Fredericton, New Brunswick and soon spread across the country. It was based on the pillars of patriotism and charity. The IODE was incorporated by a special act of the Canadian Parliament in 1917. The F. H. Mewburn Chapter in Lethbridge was organized on March 7, 1930 and was the city’s second chapter. It merged with the Galt chapter to become the Galt-Mewburn Chapter in 1989. This remaining solitary chapter applied for disbandment, following written IODE procedures, in February, 2000 citing aging membership and general inability to attract new members.
