- Photographs of Dan McGowan of Vancouver with his home-made replica of a 1917 British SE 5 fighter. He landed the vintage plane at the Lethbridge airport in a stop-over on his way to Oshkosh, Wisconsin. He and a friend built the plane working from drawings of the original. It weighed a scant 680 pounds and cost about $1,800 to build. This version of the plane had a four-cylinder engine and cruised at about 75 miles per hour. The original fighter had a 200 horsepower V-8 and would cruise at 130 mph. It was considered one of the best allied planes developed during the First World War.
