- History Biographical
- Shucho "Sam" Higa was born in 1904 in Okinawa, Japan and came to Canada in 1920. He worked in the coal mines until #8 mine closed down. He later worked at Frache's Greenhouse for 15 years until retiring in 1970. He enjoyed reading and writing about the early history of the Okinawan people in Canada. Schucho Higa passed away in 1993. The manuscript was compiled by Mr. Higa from earlier notes. Roy Urasaki typed it in modern Japanese with some adjustments for readability. The manuscript includes information that Mr. Higa learned from his father. The first Okinawan pioneer, Anno Makishi, came to Canada in 1900. He lived in Lethbridge and is laid to rest in Archmount Cemetery.
