- Portrait of William Stafford born 1842 and died May 12th 1907. In 1882 he arrived in Lethbridge from Nova Scotia to be the first manager of the North West Coal and Navigation Company. - Portrait of William Stafford born 1842 and died May 12th 1907. In 1882 he arrived in Lethbridge from Nova Scotia to be the first manager of the North West Coal and Navigation Company. In 1883 he brought his wife Mrs. Stafford (Jane Gibb) and his children to Coalbanks. In 1894 he became an inspector of the mines. Mining was in demand and so he purchased and subdivided land, the area later became known as Staffordville that is located north of 9th Avenue North and west of 10th Street North. He continued mining until his death.
