- Portrait Charles Frederick Pringle Conybeare born May 19th 1860 in England and died July 13th 1927. He arrived in Canada in 1885 at the age of 20. He moved to Lethbridge in December 1885 to practice law with W.A Gallagher. Other gentlemen he worked with are: Ives, Mortimer Jones, H.W Church, Mr. McArthur, Alexander J.S.T and Roy Davidson. He was appointed notary in 1886, Crown Prosecutor in 1888 and the Queen’s Counsellor for the Dominion of Canada in 1894. He pioneered the following: Great Falls, Canada Railway, Alberta Railway and Coal Company, Canadian Northwest Irrigation Company, and the British Canadian Trust Company now called Canada Trust Company. He helped to organize Alberta Law Society, Chinook Club and the Lethbridge Board of Trade. He also founded St. Augustine’s Church and made substantial donations to it. Two honorary degrees were conferredtno him - DCL Doctor of Civil Law and LLD Dr of Law.
