Portrait of James Ashcroft.He came to Lethbridge in 1888 from England with his family. James bought the first coal mines that consequently later became known as Ashcroft mine. Later he purchased several other mines from Nicholas Sheran. He also owned the Queen’s hotel which late3r became the Arlington Hotel.. The family lived in the river bottom until 1902 when the flood forced them to leave.
