Scope and Content
Photograph of concrete lined irrigation canal under construction by the Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District near Kipp, Alberta, the first of its kind in Alberta. Built at a cost of about $9,500, the one-half mile stretch was said to be capable of maintain a water flow equal to three times a dirt ditch of similar size. Other advantages of this type of ditch were greatly reduced maintenance and the elimination of seepage. Similar lengths of concrete ditch were built earlier in the year by the St. Mary River Irrigation District of Seven Persons, Bow Island, Burdett and Grassy Lake. Both districts had plans for additional lengths of the concrete canal.
