- Photograph of street where Royataro Nakagama had his first store in Steveston, B. C. This photo was taken about 1955-1955. Japanese families in British Columbia were interned to Alberta in 1942. Royataro was allowed to stay longer as he had the only store in Steveston which was a fishing village. The men in the village fished and the women worked in the canning factory. Royataro was a food peddlar in the village until he was able to set up a store. When the Nakagamas came to Alberta they were settled in Picture Butte.
