- Harold Gray was born in Ottawa shortly before his family moved to Lethbridge. Following his graduation form the Montana State College he joined the Entomological Laboratory at the Lethbridge Research Station. He furthered his education at the University of Minnesota before moving to Winnipeg. In 1933 Gray moved his laboratory and office to Ottawa.
