Scope and Content
Photographs of 30 little Santas at the Dorothy Good School for Retarded Children in Lethbridge used to encourage students to demonstrate good behavior. An accompanying verse suggested that students watch what they do because “there’s a father up above and 30 Santas watching you.” The Santas were designed by teacher Mrs. Eileen Schaalje and were about 30 inches tall and made from painted paper bags filled with crumpled newspapers and trimmed with tissue pom poms. Making the Santas was a project to teach basic skills in practical work, steering the students toward possible employment.
