- Photographs of Dr. S.S.. Anant, left, association professor of psychology at the University of Lethbridge presenting the school with a four volume, English language translation of the Guru-Garanth Sahib, a sacred book of Sikhism. On hand at the presentation were Donald Wicks, chief librarian and Dr. Sam smith, university president. The books were donated to commemorate the 100th birth in the Punjab, India of Sikhism’s founder Guru Nanak. Unlike Hinduism, the religion is pantheistic, teaching god as being one with the universe who favors social reform and rejects class distinction, penance and seclusion. An estimated 220 of the province’s 500 Sikhs live in southern Alberta. The books bring the library’s total to 80,000 volumes.
