Exterior photograph of the city of Lethbridge’s new transit garage at 4th Avenue and 5th Street North. The $207,000 facility was 19,400 square feet and the first new home for the transit department since 1912 with room for 25 buses. The main floor contained a maintenance garage, bus storage room, offices, machine shop and equipment storage facilities. The second floor provided space for parts storage, lunch room, locker room and wash room. At the time the city had 17 buses, six of which operated on gasoline and the remainder on diesel. There were 31 employees in the department including 20 operators, three mechanics and a foreman, four servicemen, office dispatcher, superintendent and utilities director. Bird Construction Co. Ltd. built the facility.
