- History Biographical
- “Canadian Pacific Railway High Level Bridge at Lethbridge” by Dr. Alex Johnston mentions J.E. Schwitzer, but no mention of either McMillan or E.M. MacQuarrie. Lethbridge Herald online (1905-2000) contains no references to E.M. MacQuarrie. In addition, 6 out of 9 pictures show bridges other than High Level – they are made of wood, not steel and smaller in scale. Based on these discrepancies, it is likely that the story describes the situation with a different bridge in southern Alberta. Prior to the construction of the High Level, the local railway used a different route meandering through the St. Mary’s river valley with 20 high wooden bridges along the way. Some of them were very impressive structures very similar to the High Level in appearance.
