History Biographical: Clarence Betts, born 10 Aug 1889, was a farm labourer from Coutts enlisted with the 113th Battalion in Lethbridge on 4 April 1916. His unit sailed 25 September 1916. In October of that year was transfered to the 17th Battalion and he transfered to his final unit, the 16th Battalion, in November. He was shot in 1917 and again in 1918. He was discharged on 4 April 1919. On 24 November 1932 he married Catherine Kovacik at St. Peter and Paul Church in Lethbridge and died 4 December 1970.

Also included are copies of Mr. Betts' marrage certificate and corrispondence regarding Mr. Betts' pension.

Notes: These items came to the archives with a group of objects associated with Mr.Betts' brother Pte. Earl Betts. (P20110006000) These objects were donated to the collection and include a small card that reads: "This cross is...in memory of one...died for King and Country." This card is housed in collections with the Memorial Cross.
