- Photographs of Central School’s new Media Centre, a recent advance in school library systems. It was a change from centres of stacks of books, and motionless students to media centres containing books, filmstrips, tape recordings, language instruction and freely moving students. Students got a tour of the centre with an explanation of its purpose. The centre contained 2, 200 books, several hundred filmstrips and tapes and magazines. Half time librarian Mrs. Pat Dickinson was in charge. The centre was celebrated with cookies and punch, just like “grown ups celebrate the opening of new and important places” Mrs. Dickson noted. In the photo at right, Mrs. Dickson and public schools media co-ordinator Miss Gladys Hill demonstrated use of the media for students.
