- Scope and Content
- Photograph of large earth movers lined up at quitting time as workmen leave the island at the southern end of the Lethbridge Golf and Country Club in the river bottom. Activity on the island, which was the focal point in a dispute between the city and the provincial department of highways, was noted as men and heavy equipment moved loads of earth and burned brush and trees stripped from the island. Original stripping earlier in the summer brought a storm of protest from local residents and organizations. Work was done under a government contract to provide gravel for work on Highway 5.
