History Biographical

Mary Elizabeth Taylor, the first child of Dick Alison Taylor and Edna Louise Price, was born on Dec 4, 1910. After the death of her mother in 1916, she with her brother were sent to relatives in New Brunswick for some years. After Dick Alison Taylor re-married in 1919 (to Mary Ethyl Dawson, born in 1878 in Peterborough), the children returned to Lethbridge. Mary Elizabeth lived in Lethbridge until 1928, when she went to Victoria to train as a nurse. She returned to Lethbridge after graduation and worked at the mission and did private duty nursing. In 1938 she married and moved to Edmonton. She died on Feb 7, 2008. Her father, Dick Alison Taylor was born 23 June 1876 in Havelock, NB, of Robert Burt Taylor and Mary Elizabeth Wilmot. He attended local schools, and then Mount Allison Academy in Sackville (1896-7) attained a degree in Medicine from McGill in 1901. He married Ethel Foreman in 1903 and practiced medicine in rural Nova Scotia. His wife died shortly after (perhaps in childbirth). He took post-graduate work in Boston in EENT (Eye-Ear-Nose-Throat) medicine, married his childhood sweetheart Edna Louise Price, and they moved out to Lethbridge on the advice of friend John Davis, who lived in Medicine Hat. According to 1911 census the family lived at 1506 - 7th St. South. Dick Alison Taylor died on March 27 1934 in Lethbridge and buried in St. Cyprian's Churchyard, Lethbridge. Her mother, Edna Louise Price was born on April 14, 1879 in Havelock, of John Cliff Price and Mary Isabella Woodman. She was believed to be a childhood friend with Dick Alison Taylor. After the death of his first wife, he came back to Havelock and the couple was married on December 8, 1909. Her slightly older sister Mary Janet Price was married to his older brother William Burt Taylor. Her first child Mary Elizabeth was born on Dec 4, 1910, and her son Robert Burt was born on Nov 15, 1915. Edna Louise died on Jan 16 and buried with her husband.
