History Biographical
Charles (Chuck) Sava was born in the Galt Hospital in Lethbridge on 13 February 1934. He was a student at Westminster School, Hamilton Junior High and Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI). Having a interest in aviation, Mr. Sava spent four or five years in 11 Lethbridge Squadron, Air Cadet League of Canada. After high school, Mr. Sava enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and was sworn in on 4 December 1953. He trained first in London, Ontario and competed his pilot training in Claresholm, Alberta. Mr. Sava was then posted to Portage La Prairie, Manitoba for advanced flying training. After his service with the RCAF, Mr. Sava worked as a bush pilot for three or four years and then moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba to live and work. In 1966 Chuck Sava moved to Australia, seeking better career opportunities and to escape the winter weather that he had come to dislike. Mr. Sava flew with Quantas Airlines in Australia. As of September 2010, he is retired from flying and continues to live in Australia. [Source: Letter from Chuck Sava to Trish Purkis, 18 September 2010. Archives file number 20101078010]
