- History Biographical
- The fire in the south wing of Wilson Junior High School, 2003 9 Avenue North, happened in the early morning hours of 9 December 1974. The Lethbridge Fire Department received the alarm at 4:46 am, and all available men and equipment responded to the fire. More firefighters were subsequently called in to help fight the blaze. Winds of close to 100 km per hour made the fire espcially difficult to fight, and it was not under control until 7:00 am.The audio visual, arts and science rooms of the school were destroyed along with all their equipment and furnishings. Seven general classrooms were also damaged so badly they could not be used. A separate fire was set on the stage in the gymnasium, away from the south wing, but did no significant damage.Arson was detemined to be the cause to the fire, but no culprit was ever identified or charged.
