Barney Welsh of Vauxhall, who believed in walking for his own health and that of his friends and the health of the Royal Canadian Legion was walking 300 mils from Vegreville to Vauxhall and urged Legion president Jake Sartison not to provide whisky en route. Welsh had 60 sponsor who pledge $1,600 to the walk which was intended to go to minor baseball and the Vauxhall Legion building fund. Jim Kew was sgt.-at-arms and order a celebration upon completion of the walk.
