- History Biographical
- Frank A. Gajdostik was born in Savanna, Illionois in December 1916. He was the youngest child of Anton and Marie Gajdostik, who emigrated to the United States from Tasov, Moravia. After Frank's birth, the family returned to Tasov where Anton purchased a small farm, tavern and inn. Although the enterprises were successful, Anton decided to come to Canada in 1927 to look for land. In 1930 the family sold their property in Moravia, came to Canada and settled on a farm two miles north and 1/2 mile east of Coaldale, Alberta. In 1940 Frank Gajdostik purchased a quarter section of land in the Readymade district, which he farmed with his father Anton. On 31 December 1942 Frank Gajdostik married Mary Prus of Turin. The couple had four children. In 1945 he bought another quarter section of land in the Readymade district, although the couple continued to live and farm with Frank's parents near Coaldale. In the early 1960s the decision was made to rent the Coaldale area farm to the Unger family, and in 1978 it was sold outright to the Ungers and the Van Ryn family. As of 1983, Frank and Mary Gajdostik were still farming on their land in the Readymade district. [Source: Coaldale Gem of the West 1900-1983, Coaldale Historical Society, pages 505-506]
