In 1976 a senior citizens group secured a 15 year lease from the Magrath School Division for one dollar per year for the building in order to use it as a drop in centre. Because the building had been left vacant for a number of years, over 300 windows had been broken by vandals so the chemistry lab on the second floor was converted to an apartment for an on-site caretaker. Through government grants and volunteer labour the building was renovated and is used for a variety of functions.
