History Biographical
Robert (Bob) Brown was born in Coalhurst, Alberta in 1931. His parents were John (Jack) and Elizabeth (Lizzi) Brown. Jack Brown came to Canada in 1924 and found work in the Coalhurst Mine. Lizzi followed in 1926 with their children who were born in England, James (Jim) and Bryson (Buck). In 1937 the family moved to Lethbridge, where Jack Brown worked in Galt No. 8 Mine and the Shaughnessy Mine. After graduation from Lethbridge Collegiate Institute, Bob Brown worked as a tinsmith for Charlton & Hill until the outbreak of the Korean War. Mr. Brown joined the Canadian Army on 18 August 1950, and served in Korea as a Sapper. After his discharge from the army on 6 August 1952, Mr. Brown became a letter carrier with the Lethbridge Post Office, a position he held until his retirement. Bob Brown married Marla Yucytus, and the couple have four children. Bob Brown’s father Jack served on the executive of the Lethbridge Miners Library Club, and he became interested in the club from the age of 17. In 1986 Mr. Brown was elected to the executive of the Lethbridge Miners Library Club, and following three years of service, was elected president. Bob Brown served as president of the club until 1995, when he decided to devote his energies to the General Stewart Branch No. 4, Royal Canadian Legion. [Source: Mrs. Marla Brown]
