- Nicholas Bolokoski was born in Hardieville on 6 October 1918. He was one of six children of Fred and Bella Bolokoski. His sisters were Minnie (Mrs. Terentiuk) and Mrs. William Kizema. His brothers were William, John and Michael. Raised and educated locally, Mr. Bolokoski enlisted in the King's Own Rifles at Calgary in January 1940. In September 1942 Mr. Bolokoski was sent to England, where he served with the South Saskatchewan Regiment and later the Royal Winnipeg Rifles. On 12 June 1944 Nicholas Bolokoski was sent with his unit to France, where he saw combat at Caen, Falaise and Truin. On 27 September 1944 Corporal Bolokoski was killed in action at Calais.
