History Biographical
The Brewerton brothers were sons of Charles William and Mary Stewart Brewerton. Mr. Brewerton came to Raymond in 1903 to manage the dry good department in the T.O. King store. His wife Mary and their children followed in 1906. Sons Le Gay (Lee), Harding Y. and George Brewerton were all involved in the movie theatre business with their father. George eventually moved from Raymond to Vancouver, where he became involved in movie theatres, golf ranges and roller skating arenas. The Brewerton brothers have owned the following movie theatres: the Rex, rebuilt in 1928 after a fire and renamed the Capitol (Raymond, Alberta); the Palace, renamed the Mayfair (Cardston, Alberta); the Roxy (Cardston, Alberta); the Parkview Drive-in (Cardston, Alberta); the Empress (Magrath, Alberta); a movie theatre and roller skating rink (Waterton, Alberta); a movie theatre (Olds, Alberta); a movie theatre (Coronation, Alberta); a movie theatre (Vulcan, Alberta); a movie theatre (Red Deer, Alberta); the Coronation (Calgary, Alberta); the Crescent (Calgary, Alberta); the Rex (Vancouver, British Columbia); the Majestic (Vancouver, British Columbia); the Camby (Vancouver, British Columbia); the Orpheum (Shelby, Montana); the Liberty (Shelby, Montana); the Gaity (Oilmont, Montana); the Kevin (Kevin, Montana); the Capitol (Cutbank, Montana); a movie theatre (Coalhurst, Alberta); a movie theatre (Sunburst, Montana).
