Project Manager 2002-2003 Sir Alexander Galt Museum & Archives, Lethbridge, AB Managed the development and installation of Ancestors exhibition with partners The British Museum, the Royal Ontario Museum, the Red Crow Community College, and the Blood Indian Band. This was the first major aboriginal exhibition at the museum. De-installation takes place in January, 2003. Director/Curator 1999-2002 Sir Alexander Galt Museum & Archives, Lethbridge, AB Contracted as a change agent to make the facility more accessible to the community; develop and implement new strategic plan for operations including implementing electronic collections management in both the history museum and archives, development of a new interpretative program; plan for facility expansion. Fundraising successful to $5 million over three year term. Director 1993-1996 Vancouver Museum Contract to make over the institution for the new century; managed an urban-oriented museum with natural and human history collections. Managed a budget of $1.4 million for research, education, exhibitions, public relations, community programs, restaurant, gift shop, and administration of 33 staff. Skills in public speaking, media relations, negotiations, developing and writing action/communications/business plans. Director 1992-1993 Revelstoke Railway Museum, Revelstoke, B.C. Contract under the supervision of the Community Futures Society, Revelstoke, as part of its heritage tourism initiative, to start-up and manage the construction of a community museum; wrote storyline and managed contracts for fabrication of exhibitions; curator of collections care, management and research. Trained staff and volunteers in all aspects of museum management, Executive Director 1988-1992 Cowichan and Chemainus Valleys Ecomuseum, Duncan, B.C. Contract to start-up and manage the Ecomuseum Demonstration Project--to demonstrate heritage as a key component for tourism destination and economic development of communities. Key tasks included community development and leadership to provide framework for the concept of a 1000 sq km "museum without walls" which included several levels of government, urban and rural communities, and heritage/eco tourism. The theme of the Ecomuseum was forestry. Skills in fundraising, developing partnerships, negotiating with government officials, volunteer interpretative programs, tourism/marketing programs, and preparation of business and operations plans. Executive Director 1984-1987 Alberta Museums Association, Edmonton, AB Contract to organize and implement start-up operations for the association, including the delivery of an annual $100,000 provincial financial assistance program (grants) for museums in training, membership, advocacy, fundraising and publications programs. Skills in negotiating with government officials and working with community volunteers and leaders were essential. Chief of Education and Extension Services 1968-1974 Royal British Columbia Museum, Victoria, B.C. As a member of the management team at the RBCM, organized and implement the first education, travelling exhibitions, and public information program at the museum. Initiated and produced aboriginal-related education programs. Developed partnerships with the Ministry of Education to produce curriculum-related travelling exhibitions for B.C. schools; and the University of Victoria to teach curriculum-related programs using community cultural resources.
