- History Biographical
- Albert DeBoer was born near Nobleford, Alberta in 1918. He was the seventh of 17 children of Daniel and Tena DeBoer. Mr. DeBoer attended school in Nobleford, Iron Springs, and after the family moved to the Monarch district, the Rose Butte School there. At the outbreak of World War 2 in 1939, Albert DeBoer joined the Canadian Army and eventually became an instructor in the Royal Canadian Mechanical Engineers (RCME). On 7 August 1943 Mr. DeBoer married Christine Hunter while serving in England with the RCME. Their son Geoffrey was born in England on 28 May 1944. Albert DeBoer returned to Canada in September 1945. He bought a section of land in the Rocky Coulee district in partnership with his brother Clarence, and in June 1946 Albert’s wife Christine and son Geoff came to Canada to join him. In addition to farming, Albert bought 8,800 broiler chickens and housed them in the former factory building where Noble cultivators were manufactured. Unfortunately, the market for broiler chickens collapsed and Albert shut down the enterprise. In addition to his business activities, Mr. DeBoer was active in the Park Lake Rural Electrification Association, serving on the board of directors from 1949 to 1955. He also helped found the Willow Creek Rural Electrification Association. He also coached the Jumbo Valley Men’s baseball team for a number of years. In 1957 Albert DeBoer sold his farm and the family moved to Calgary. Albert and Christine DeBoer later moved to Vancouver, and then to Kelowna where Mr. DeBoer was in business.
