- History Biographical
- The Hands Across the Border ceremony traditionally closes the Assembly each year. American and Canadian Rotarians and their guests gather at the border between the United States and Canada and stand on their respective sides of a ribbon stretched along the frontier. They clasp hands over the ribbon and recite the following pledge: "In the name of God, we will not take up arms against each other. We will work for Peace; maintain liberty; strive for freedom and demand equal opportunity for all mankind. May the long existing Peace between our two nations stimulate other people to follow this example. We thank thee, O God."
