- History Biographical
- "Lethbridge Broadcasting Limited hosted a 'Norman Botterill Farewell" on October 13, 1981. It was held at Sven Ericksen's Family Reatuarant. This was the occasion of Mr. Botterill's official retirment from the Board of Directors, and so greetings came from CJOC-AM Radio, CILA-FM Radio and CJPR-AM Radio. Equally impressive that evening were the large number of friends who came to wish Norman a happy retirement, and the number of fellow broadcasters who came with thir best wishes. Mayor Andy Anderson came as a friend, and Civic Offical, and presented the City's plaque for community service. The Provincial Government, through local MLA John Gogo, presented Mr. Botterill with an Alberta pin and plaque. The Vice president of Selkirk Communications Limited, Ken Baker, brought greetings from the head office of the company, which Norman Botterill helped to expand from a modest Alberta company, to a worldwide communication entity. Master of Ceremonies was long-time employee, and Past President, George Brown. He introduced Jack Innes, President and General Manager, Hal Ivy-Mentanko, General Sales Manager, Daryl Ferguson, Supervisor of CJPR, Dalt Elton of CKWX, who sent singing greetings from Vancouver, Bill Matheson and Bob Lang of CJCA, who wired greetings, and Al McCan, Sports Director of CFRN. Orv Kope spoke as a business associate representing CHAT Medicine Hat. The presentations were chosen to represent the optimism of those carrying on the company. Included were a gold pen from Daryl Ferguson of CJPR, a gold calculator from Hal Ivy, representing CILA-FM, and a gold brick lighter from Jack Innes, representing CJOC. The golden words of the speakers were also presented on a cassette recording of the proceedings, and the album reflects the golden friendships." [Source: Photograph album 20081033034]
