"The formative meeting of the Probus Club of Lethbridge was held on September 24, 1997 at Ericksen's Restaurant commencing at 9:30 a.m.The Probus Club of Lethbridge was sponsored by the Rotary Club of Lethbridge (Downtown) and the Rotary Club of Lethbridge East.The Organizing Committee included Les Talbot and Peter Green from Lethbridge Downtown Rotary and Chuck James and Don Hale of the Lethbridge East Rotary.Invitations from the committee were mailed to 150 prospective members and these were followed up with a personal phone call.On September 24th, approximately 75 prospective members came to this meeting. In addition, a member of the Probus Club of Calgary attended. The meeting started with an overview of Probus Club (Retired and Semi-Retired Business and Professional Persons) with assistance from representatives of the Probus Club of Calgary. Following this excplanation and questions, the Chair (Les Talbot) called for a show of hands of those interested in forming a club in Lethbridge. A very large majority of those present, indicated support for forming a "Club".The Chair invited those present who wished to become founding members to register and pay their annual fees of $30.The Chair then called for three volunteers to form a Nominating Committee and submit a slate of Officers and Directors at the next meeting to be held on October 23, 1997.The following volunteered - Terry Wauters, Don Doram and Elisha Rasmussen. Don Doram volunteered to chair the committee.A brief intermission was held, followed by the introduction by Chuck James of our first guest speaker, Mr. Gil Tourigny, President of the Chinook Health Region. Following a very intersting presentation and question period, the speaker was thanked by Don Hale. The meeting ended with the announcement of the next meeting to be held on October 23rd at Ericksen's Restaurant at 9:30 am and a final, very happy, announcement, that 67 members had sighned up as Founding Members and paid their dues.
