History Biographical
Marvin John Bolokoski was born in the Galt Hospital, Lethbridge on 14 May 1943, one of three children of Anne and John Bolokoski. His brother was Bryan and his sister Beverly (married Richard Dunn). Raised on the family farm east of Warner, Marvin was a member of baseball teams from Warner that won three provincial championships and played basketball at both the high school and college levels. After high school, Marvin completed two years of business education at Lethbridge Community College. He then worked first for Doug's Sports, and after that the City of Lethbridge. In 1977 Marvin returned to the family farm, the same year his father John Bolokoski died. Geertruida Jacoba (Truus) Groenenboom emigrated with her family to Canada in 1952. She is one of 12 children of Maria Barbara and Huibrecht Groenenboom. The others are Jean (married Adrian de Kreek); Henny (married Huib Wiskerke); Ria (married Joe Fedyniak); Janny (married Keith Nugent); Cobie (married Andre Oosterbroek); Mieke (married Bob Rice); Jake; Joe; Dan; Huib; and Bas. The family settled on a farm near Kipp, Alberta. Truus entered nursing school after graduating from high school, and it was while she was studying nursing that she met Marvin Bolokoski on a blind date on 17 July 1967. Marvin Bolokoski and Truus Groenenboom were married in Hope Reformed Church, 1505 6 Avenue South in Lethbridge, on 1 March 1969. The wedding service was delayed as a large number of guests had to be seated in the church. The reception and dance was held in the El Rancho Motor Hotel in Lethbridge following the ceremony. The couple had two children, Trent and Jill (married Jeff Rowden). Marvin and Truus Bolokoski were members of St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church in Lethbridge. Marvin was also involved with Ridge Reservoir Water Association, Warner Curling Club, County of Warner Recreation Board, Warner High School basketball and the Canadian Heart Fund. Marvin John Bolokoski died on 22 March 1998, age 54.
