History Biographical

"William Dayman came to Carmangay in 1924 from Stirling, Alberta. He was the C.P.R. Agent until 1943 and was very active in community affairs. Mr. Dayman served on the United Church Board, the town council, the hospital board, and held offices in the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star ... Mr. Dayman was always ready to help and sent emergency telegrams at all hours. Another interesting job he had was releasing homing pigeons for the Pigeons Fanciers Clubs. The birds were sent in by express with the request he release them at a certain time." The Dayman family moved to Calgary in 1943. They had four children: Roy (wife Dorothy) who operated a grocery store in Barons, Alberta; Frances (husband Wesley Jacobson) of Lethbridge; Eileen (husband Clarence Norton); Elvin: and Harold, who was killed in action during World War 2. Mr. Dayman died in Calgary in 1945, and his wife continued to live there. [Source: Bridging the Years: Carmangay and District. These items were originally in the possession of the donor's parents, Mr. Wesley Jacobson and Mrs. Frances Ethel Jacobson (nee Dayman).

Scope and Content

The fonds consists of six photographs, one of the four Dayman children and the others of school classes, as well as a Pocket Directory of Carmangay and a school assignment prepared by one of the children about Carmangay. The assignment is illustrated with photographs that have been scanned as well.
