- History Biographical
- Edwin Leroy Duell was born on 5 September 1900 near Redfield, Iowa, the son of Elton Borton and Lucy Duell. Elton Duell purchased a farm four miles from New Dayton, Alberta and the family moved there in 1909. By the time he was 18 years old, Edwin had taken over much of responsibility for the family farm from his father, who was in poor health. On 4 July 1923 Edwin Duell married Ida Adams, the daughter of John H. and Sarah Adams of Tyrrell Lake. The couple had five children: Elton J. (born 2 September 1924), Melvin L. (born 18 April 1926), Lucy Delores (25 February 1930 – 27 October 1931), John H. (born 10 February 1932), and Faye (born 26 January 1934). Edwin Duell was active in community affairs. He served eight years on the New Dayton school board and seven years on Warner County Council. He was a member of the Stirling Lions Club, and later of the Warner Lions Club. Edwin Duell died on 12 April 1970. [Source: Memories: New Dayton and District 1900-1978. pages 272-274]
